On his first day in office, Monday, January 20th, President Trump released dozens of Executive Orders. Most relevant to the propane industry include Executive Orders concerning increasing domestic energy production and infrastructure, reallocating grant funding away from EVs, promoting energy choice and appliance neutrality, and on tariffs. President Trump also froze rulemaking across the board pending review, proposed eliminating requirements that raise the cost of home appliances, pulled the U.S. out of the Paris Agreement, and rescinded dozens of Biden-era Executive Orders, including a number impacting the energy sector.
An Executive Order (EO) directs the actions of the Executive Branch (inclusive of the White House and federal agencies), but it cannot override existing law or the Constitution. An EO has no authority over the Legislative Branch or the Judicial Branch of government, and both branches may pass laws or issue orders, respectively, to override it.
NPGA is in the process of conducting significant analyses of nine (9) EOs. In next week’s Bobtail, we will share a comprehensive analysis of the provisions that most directly impact the propane industry. In addition, NPGA is in the process of working with the new administration, new federal appointees, new members of Congress, and their staffs to advocate for energy choice, appliance neutrality, tariffs-related matters, and reallocation of grant funding toward propane and propane infrastructure.
