Bobtail drivers are the heart of the propane industry—highly trained professionals working hard every day to safely deliver propane to millions of Americans. To celebrate their skill, safety, and dedication, NPGA is thrilled to launch the Bobtail Rodeo National Championship (BRNC). The road to Nashville begins locally. NPGA has created a comprehensive resource guide for state and regional associations and marketers to host their own qualifying rodeos in 2027. Local winners will then advance to the first-ever BRNC at the 2028 NPGA Expo in Nashville, Tennessee. Family, friends, and coworkers are invited to attend and cheer on their drivers! The BRNC will be held at the Nashville Fairgrounds and Speedway with an announcer, food trucks, fun, and possibly live entertainment.

Rodeo Eligibility Requirements include:
- Win a qualifying state, regional, or marketer rodeo.
- Hold a CDL (Class A or B with Hazmat).
- Be accident-free for the 12 months prior to the competition.
- Have an active account on the PERC Learning Management System.
Similar to American Trucking Association events, the BRNC features three phases:
- Written Exam: A 50-question test hosted on the PERC LMS covering trucking safety, propane industry safety, and technical knowledge.
- Pre-Trip Inspection: Drivers must locate 15 planted “defects” around a bobtail truck (e.g., broken taillights, a cracked frame, or misplaced tools).
- Agility Course: A 6-to-8 problem driving course testing the driver’s ability to navigate tight corners, curvy driveways, narrow clearances, and obstacles.
The Grand Champion, and two runners-up will be “crowned” just before the NPGA Expo Keynote Session and will take home a trophy and a prize. The Grand Champion’s employer will host a traveling trophy to proudly display in their office or showroom until the next national competition.
Stay tuned for much more information, including a dedicated BRNC webpage. Questions? Contact NPGA’s Senior Manager of State Association Relations, Eric Sears.
