New York’s Climate Action Council (CAC) finalized their Scoping Plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This week the CAC, a state body, overwhelmingly voted to approve and adopt their finalized Scoping Plan, which includes recommendations, actions and policies that should be pursued by the legislature, governor and state agencies to significantly reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the Empire State. Many of the CAC’s recommendations focus on efforts to electrify buildings, transportation and industry, while simultaneously increasing electricity generation from more renewable sources, such as wind and solar.
Both the New York Propane Gas Association and NPGA were actively involved in engagement efforts to shape and influence the content of the final Scoping Plan to advance the propane industry’s interests and ensure a viable marketplace going forward. However, now that the CAC’s plans are finalized, these efforts will not only continue, but grow.
Bill Overbaugh, Executive Director of the New York Propane Gas Association, has been engaging with the Climate Action Council since the beginning. “We continue to believe that New York is moving, often blindly, too fast to try and electrify every traditional thermal and combustion application without a rationale conversation about the serious impacts these efforts will have on the economy, the environment, and our energy supply,” Overbaugh said. “We look forward to continuing to work with NPGA and other like-mined organizations in 2023 to make the case to state leaders for a sane and balanced approach to protecting the environment and reducing GHG emissions.”
