Bottom line: Harvest is above the five-year average. With continued dry and hot weather, a few states have begun harvesting corn. As of the September 12, 2022, the Crop Report published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) reports 95% of corn has entered the doughing stage, which is down by 1% from the five-year average. All USDA evaluated states have mature corn, which is at 25% compared to the 30% five-year average. USDA added the harvest corn section this week (see chart below).

According to the U.S. National Grain Drying Profile, created by the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC), the current trend is displaying a normal to drier crop this year. NPGA continues to track environmental factors impacting corn crop to navigate informed discussions pertaining to supply and harvest. NPGA and PERC encourage propane marketers to continue communicating with agricultural customers often for the upcoming crop drying season.
