Refrigerant Propane and the Ozone
R-290 Protects People and the Environment
Refrigerant propane, also known as R-290, is an affordable and environmentally responsible option for our refrigeration needs. R-290 does not damage the ozone layer or increase global warming, unlike refrigerants containing harmful chemicals like chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs).
The ozone layer protects people and wildlife alike from the sun’s dangerous ultraviolet (UV) radiation. In 1985, scary news emerged that there was a hole in the ozone layer over Antarctica, caused by the chemicals used in air conditioners and refrigerants.
Refrigeration and air conditioning and aren’t going away. Everyone enjoys a cold drink and AC on a hot day. But nobody wants skin cancer or burned retinas from the sun’s radiation. We all want a healthy planet. Using R-290 is the solution to a serious global problem. And it’s working — the United Nations recently reported that Earth’s ozone layer is on track to recover and revert back to its original “pre-hole status” within the next 40 years.
