The Iowa Propane Gas Association (IPGA) hosted a very successful Propane Day at the statehouse in Des Moines on April 5. Members spoke with legislators on the benefits of propane and about specific pieces of legislation. The most pressing issue facing Iowa marketers is House Bill 206, the assessment of property tax on propane storage tanks. The delegation met with House Speaker Grassley to thank him for passing the bill as well as with Senate Majority Leader Whitver to educate him on the importance of passing this bill and removing property taxes. Michelle Wicker, the IPGA CEO said, “Meeting with members of the legislature is important, so they know how essential propane is in Iowa.”
The Association had a strong turnout with 20 members visiting their state legislators and volunteering throughout the event. Marketers also partnered with the Tama County Pork Producers to serve propane-grilled pork loin to legislators and their staff.
Capitol Days help build strong relationships with legislators – a benefit that lasts for years. If you would like more information about Capitol Days in your state, contact your state association board or executive. In addition, NPGA hosts Propane Days where propane marketers from around the country visit their legislators in Washington, DC. Visit Propane Days and Propane Days 365 for more information.
