The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) works closely with the National Conference on Weights and Measures (NCWM) to maintain the regulations for metering as they apply to propane bobtails and dispensers. NIST is starting to gather data on the field performance of “master meters,” also known as “field reference meters.” A longtime NPGA effort to provide a practical alternative to the volumetric provers that are commonly used is starting to pay off and to further that effort, NIST is hoping to build a database of master meter use in the field in order to establish the parameters under which they can be used.
If your company has experience using master meters and is willing to share its data, please contact NPGA Vice President & Chief Technical Officer Bruce Swiecicki.
