Foster Fuels – Leading the Community in Brookneal

In December, Twana Aiken and I visited Foster Fuels headquarters in Brookneal, Virginia. We learned a lot about propane but more importantly, we learned about the leading role Foster Fuels plays in the Brookneal community. Established in 1921, Foster Fuels started delivering flour, ice, and lamp oil in an ox-drawn cart in Brookneal. Foster is in its third-generation of family ownership and has made many achievements during its century in business, including being the prime and largest emergency fuel contractor for the federal government. Foster Fuels provided propane support during several emergencies including Hurricanes Harvey, Maria, and Irma (2017), Superstorm Sandy (2012), and the Haiti Earthquake (2010).

In partnership with the Watt Foster Family Foundation, Foster Fuels has given back to the community around them, valuing children’s education, veterans and first responders, and land conservation. Philanthropic actions include:

  • Donating a 500-acre plot near the Peaks of Otter to a local church to establish a youth camp.
  • Offering 100 scholarships to customers as part of the company’s centennial celebration.
  • Donating over 1400 coats to local schools and organizations in the 2022 Spread the Warmth coat drive.

Foster Fuels continues to grow in the bulk petroleum distribution business. Adding products and services regularly, the company has seven showroom locations across central and southern Virginia, and assets across the country. Today, Foster markets petroleum nationwide and operates the nation’s leading emergency fuel delivery and logistics companies. It was a great visit and we look forward to working with Foster Fuels in the future.
