Bottom Line: NPGA engages with state utility commissions so they better understand the energy resilience value of propane.
This week, NPGA participated in a gas panel before the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners’ (NARUC) Committee on Natural Gas. The panel took place during NARUC’s Winter Policy Summit.
NPGA educated commissioners and commission staff on the environmental and resilience benefits of propane. Specifically, they learned how propane-air plants help ensure an uninterrupted supply of utility gas, even when natural gas supplies are tight and demand is high. In addition, NPGA highlighted how propane companies provide vital supplemental fuel to interruptible natural gas customers during periods of gas curtailment – such as during the polar vortex in February 2021 — when certain customer classes are required to forgo, on short notice, receipt of their normal supply of utility gas for a period of time.
NARUC is the national association representing state public service commissions from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories. For more information, please contact NPGA’s Jacob Peterson.
