On December 27, 2021 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) amended its recommended quarantine or isolation policies for those who contract COVID-19 as well as those exposed to COVID-19. The CDC’s revised guidance is available online here, and its modifications include:
- If you contract COVID-19:
- Isolate for 5 days; and
- If asymptomatic or symptoms are resolving without fever for 24 hours, wear a mask for 5 days.
- If you are exposed to COVID-19 and:
- Are unvaccinated, quarantine for 5 days followed by strict mask use for an additional 5 days; or
- Are vaccinated and received booster shot, no need to quarantine but wear a mask for 10 days.
- If a 5-day quarantine is not feasible, it is imperative that an exposed person wear a well-fitting mask at all times when around others for 10 days after exposure.
The CDC also published the below chart that may be distributed to employees or posted at the work place to provide clarity on the new recommendations.
