Underwriters Labs’ UL 495 “Standard for Power-Operated Dispensing Devices for LP-Gas” and CSA Group’s CSA CAN1-12.4 “Dispensing Devices for Propane Fuel for Highway” address the same equipment and devices. UL 495 is referenced in NFPA 58 and CSA CAN1-12.4 is used in Canada. In an effort to “harmonize” requirements between both countries, CSA initiated a group effort to review the documents and resolve any major differences between them. The expected result is that authorities would consider both standards equivalent to one another and that autogas dispensers tested and listed to either standard would be acceptable in both countries.
The results of this effort are now available for public review through the CSA Group’s website. Comments are being accepted through January 21, 2022. Use this link to register and review the proposed standard: https://publicreview.csa.ca/Home/Details/4412 For more information, please contact Bruce Swiecicki.
