Bottom Line: Second chance hiring for those who have gone through the justice system can help build your workforce.
NPGA wants to alert the industry to an area of labor supply that its partners at the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) are focused on getting back into the workforce: individuals who have gone through the justice system. NAM has several resources available if your company has an interest in utilizing its second chance program as an intentional business strategy to reach all areas of the potential labor pool. Second chance is a collaboration between the Manufacturing Institute—the workforce development and education partner of the NAM—and the Charles Koch Institute.
An overview webinar is provided here.
All of NAM’s Second Chance resources are provided here.
In addition, companies that hire individuals who have gone through the justice system may qualify for federal tax credits known as “work opportunity tax credits” (WOTC). Information on WOTC is available here and here. Questions? Contact NPGA President and CEO Steve Kaminski.
