Bottom Line: Negotiations continue between Class 1 rail carriers and the Unions. Over the weekend, the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees Division of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (BMWED) declined to ratify the recent tentative agreement between the union and the nation’s largest freight rail carriers. As part of the September tentative agreement, both parties remain in a “cooling off” period to continue negotiating. This period lasts until November 19. NPGA will continue to monitor the situation and engage with our partners in the rail industry, executive branch, and Capitol Hill as necessary.
