American field production of propane, which has skyrocketed over the last 15 years, continues to surge. In July 2025 (the most recent month for which data is available), the U.S. produced 72.3 million barrels of propane – a record monthly amount. For comparison, in July 2010 the U.S. produced only 17.6 million barrels. Put another way, monthly propane production has increased more than fourfold since 2010. And as the space heating and crop drying season begins across the country, U.S. propane stocks – less propylene barrels at terminals – have reached an all-time high of 103.4 million barrels, according to EIA data.
The United States is the world’s premier producer and supplier of propane. Domestically, propane remains a clean and affordable way to provide energy to residential homes, commercial buildings, industrial facilities, farms, and to power both stationary and mobile engine applications.
