NPGA Discusses Tariffs with State Energy Offices

NPGA State Affairs staff was recently invited to present to the National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO) Energy Security Committee regarding tariffs proposed by the Trump administration and potential implications for the propane industry. Staff presented to more than 50 state energy officials and aligned industry partners, and discussed the potential economic impact a 10% tariff on liquid fuels from Canada would have on the domestic propane market, the interdependencies of the U.S. and Canadian propane supply chain, as well as the implications the sector-level tariffs recently levied on steel and aluminum may have on propane industry parts and equipment.

The NASEO Energy Security Committee provides a forum for states to work effectively with industry to bolster state-level energy security and preparedness. As such, it is critical that NPGA State Affairs staff educate state energy offices on the potential impact tariffs may have on the flow of propane into the U.S., and how this might affect supply and logistics in their states. Through collaboration with NASEO, NPGA fosters valuable relationships with state energy offices in order to mutually advocate for reasonable and responsible energy policy.
