Last week, Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves signed House Bill (HB) 1073 into law. The legislation prevents state agencies and local governments from banning or restricting access to motor vehicles, farm equipment, and lawn tools based upon the type of fuel, including propane, used to operate them. These protections are needed because governments across the country have taken steps to restrict and ban access to mobile and stationary internal combustion engines.
HB 1073 safeguards consumer access to numerous propane-powered engine applications in the Magnolia State, including autogas vehicles, forklifts, lawn mowers, weeders, irrigation equipment, and generators. Consumers, not the government, are best positioned to determine the type of fuel that meets their personal preferences and unique energy needs.
As of the 2024 industry sales report, Mississippi was the 29th largest propane market in the country, with 106 million gallons of fuel sold. For more information, contact NPGA’s Senior Director of State Affairs, Jacob Peterson.
