On Friday, April 24, the Trump Administration announced a 90-day extension of the current 60-day Jones Act waiver originally issued in March 2026. The extension will continue to permit foreign vessels to operate between U.S. ports, in an attempt to further strengthen domestic supply chains and lower costs amid the ongoing conflict in Iran. According to the White House, “New data compiled since the initial waiver was issued revealed that significantly more supply was able to reach U.S. ports faster”.
NPGA is pleased to see the Administration extend the waiver, as they have long urged both Congress and the Administration to recognize the benefits of easing Jones Act restrictions. This extension continues to provide a valuable test case for the propane industry, highlighting the potential advantages of a seasonal waiver during periods of prolonged supply disruption, as well as peak harvest and heating seasons. NPGA will continue engaging with Congress and the White House to advance policies that expand flexible shipping options under the Jones Act.
