Recently, the Iowa Boards and Commissions Review Committee (BCRC), which is responsible for reviewing the effectiveness and efficiency of state-authorized boards and commissions, proposed to eliminate numerous state boards, including Iowa’s Propane Education and Research Council (PERC). Iowa’s PERC was created in 2007. Since its creation, the Council has focused on safety, education and research that has benefited the propane industry.
Michelle Wicker, Executive Director of the Iowa Propane Gas Association, has been engaged on this issue since the Review Committee released their preliminary recommendations. “Iowa PERC continues to fulfill its mission and provides tremendous value for our membership and propane consumers across the state,” Wicker said. “While we understand the rationale for the BCRS’s state review process, we strongly believe that abolishing Iowa PERC would be a mistake and will vigorously defend the program, which we worked hard to create in the first place, from unwarranted removal.”
