Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds recently signed House Bill (HB) 860 into law. This legislation prevents state agencies and local government from banning or limiting access to a mobile or stationary engine simply based upon the type of energy the machines uses to operate. These legal protections safeguard consumer access to propane-powered engine applications ranging from school buses and forklifts to irrigation pumps and combined heat and power (CHP) units. Propane has long been utilized as clean, reliable, and cost-effective engine fuel.
Michelle Wicker, Executive Director of the Iowa Propane Gas Association, has been championing the legislation in Des Moines since it was first introduced earlier this year. “We are very pleased Governor Reynolds signed this bill into law, creating protections for Iowans to use the fuel of their choice across a host of engine applications,” said Wicker.
As of the 2023 industry sales report, Iowa was the 8th largest propane market in the country, with 380million gallons of fuel sold. For more information, contact NPGA’s Senior Director of State Affairs, Jacob Peterson.
