Until recently, Massachusetts was the last remaining New England state to still require propane marketers to leave a paper ticket for each fuel delivery, regardless of the desire of the homeowner. H.4132, which was signed into law last week, gives fuel customers the freedom to decide whether or not they want to receive a paper receipt or an electronic delivery ticket instead. Electronic tickets make the process of delivering fuel to customers safer, more efficient, and environmentally-friendly. This added flexibility increases both employee and customer satisfaction.
Leslie Anderson, Executive Director of the Propane Gas Association of New England (PGANE), has been championing this legislation since it was first introduced. “Like anything involving the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, this simple issue has been a long tedious three-year process to resolve,” said Anderson. “I am thrilled that we were finally successful and now our dealers can make safer more efficient deliveries without having to traverse winter yards and slippery front porches to hang a paper delivery ticket after each delivery. This will prevent injuries and increase the number of stops per hour!”
As of the 2023 industry sales report, Massachusetts was the 21st largest propane market in the country, with 128 million gallons sold. For more information, contact NPGA’s Director of State Affairs, Jacob Peterson.
