On Friday, October 18th, 2024, the Department of Energy published its Final Determination of Energy Conservation Standards for Oil, Electric, and Weatherized Gas Consumer Furnaces. The Final Determination covers non-weatherized oil-fired furnaces, weatherized gas furnaces, weatherized oil furnaces, weatherized oil-fired furnaces, and electric furnaces. NPGA and its coalition partners supported DOE’s proposed determination in 2023 that amended standards were not justified at that time. In its Final Determination, DOE agreed with NPGA and its coalition partners and left the standards unchanged. Consequently, NPGA and its coalition partners helped prevent unsupportable government standards for propane-fired furnaces.
