Bottom Line: ASHRAE will work more closely with DOE to focus on decarbonation.
This past June, the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Energy to work more closely to focus on building decarbonization and resilience. Some key components are:
- Advance decarbonization by increasing energy efficiency and reducing carbon footprint throughout the life of the building.
- Increase grid-interactivity of buildings.
- Promote the adoption of advanced building codes and standards.
- Increase compliance by assisting states in understanding and applying the latest codes.
- Develop workforce in HVACR and associated sectors by increasing diversity and advancing training to support decarbonization.
- Improve building performance as it affects occupants’ health and well-being.
