Bottom Line: Host a Congressman at your propane facility to tell your story and build a relationship. In August, two marketers hosted Members of Congress for facility visits. AmeriGas hosted Congressman Wittman at their bulk plant in Colonial Beach, Virginia, and Flo-Gas hosted Congressman Rutherford at their bulk plant in Fernandina Beach, Florida. Both visits included facility tours and conversations about the vital role propane plays in the energy sector.
In Virginia, AmeriGas discussed how propane supports a clean, diverse and resilient energy sector and highlighted the deficiencies of policies promoting electrification. Congressman Wittman received an overview of the industry and learned how residential and commercial customers use the fuel across his district to meet their unique heating and energy needs. The group also discussed the growing market for renewable propane and its potential to reduce emissions.
In Florida, Flo-Gas explained how propane supports national security and enhances energy reliability and resilience during natural disasters, such as hurricanes. Congressman Rutherford also learned about a variety of propane applications, including autogas, and innovations around renewable propane as well.
NPGA staff will follow up with both Congressional offices to continue the development of these relationships. If your company is interested in hosting a member of Congress, please reach out to Eric Sears, NPGA’s Manager of State Association relations.
