9/21 Deadline for $610 Million in Transit Grants

The deadline is quickly approaching for transit agencies seeking a share of $610 million in federal funding available through the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) FY 2026 Low or No Emission (Low-No) and Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Infrastructure Programs. Applications are due September 21, 2026 and NPGA’s grants team is available to help!

FTA is making approximately $589 million available through the Low-No Program and another $21 million through the Bus and Bus Facilities Program. Funding can support bus purchases and rehabilitation, fueling and maintenance infrastructure, facility improvements, and related workforce development.

For the propane industry, the funding presents an important opportunity to expand propane autogas transit fleets. Low-emission propane autogas buses remain eligible under the Low-No Program, providing transit agencies with a proven option for reducing emissions while benefiting from rapid deployment, established fueling technology, and comparatively low infrastructure costs. Approximately $23 million was awarded to propane transit projects in 2025, demonstrating propane’s ability to compete successfully for these federal funds.

With the September 21 deadline only days away, NPGA encourages members to contact local transit agencies, municipalities, and regional planning organizations now to identify projects that could incorporate propane autogas vehicles and infrastructure.

NPGA’s grants team is available to assist with identifying project opportunities, reviewing eligibility requirements, strengthening applications, and providing technical assistance through the application process. Opportunities like these will be available from multiple agencies in late 2026 and especially in 2027, so reach out now to start preparing.
