State Director of the Year Award Information

To recognize the NPGA State Director who has been the most effective in carrying out his/her responsibilities during the previous year. The award, in the form of a plaque, may be presented annually at the NPGA Annual Meeting, although it is not required that an award be presented each year. 

Nominations can be made by any member of the NPGA and the staff members of affiliated associations. There is no limit as to the number of times a State Director can be nominated and/or receive the award.  The deadline for the nomination form to be received by NPGA is December 1.

The judges for the award are to be the NPGA chairman (who shall serve as chairman), the immediate past chairman, and the NPGA District Directors. The judges shall solicit input from the membership and NPGA staff members to whatever extent they deem necessary or useful. 

Criteria Activities and accomplishments in the areas listed below are to be considered in selecting the State Director of the Year.

  1. Communicating

    1. Is the State Director well informed about activities, programs, and policies of NPGA? Has he/she done his/her homework?

    2. Does the State Director present reports at state meetings and conventions that accurately and comprehensively review NPGA programs and activities? Does he/she present the NPGA Board’s position without letting personal views interfere?

    3. Are these reports presented with enthusiasm and conviction?

    4. Does the State Director work with the staff of the affiliated association in his/her efforts to inform the membership?

    5. Does the State Director serve as an effective conduit by soliciting the view of the membership and members’ ideas about NPGA activities? Does he/she pass questions, problems, ideas, needs, along to the District Director, committees, elected officers, or the appropriate staff member?

  2. Working with committees

    1. Upon request, does the State Director help accomplish the goals of NPGA committees-promoting the use of NPGA materials, assisting the Member Services Committee, organizing Congressional contacts at the request of the Governmental Affairs Committee, for example?

    2. If or when requested, does the State Director suggest members to serve on NPGA committees?

  3. Meeting attendance

    1. Does the State Director attend NPGA conventions and participate in sessions?

    2. Does he/she attend Board meetings regularly?

    3. Does he/she attend meetings of the state association?
