The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) will soon initiate the Winter Heating Fuels Telephone Survey. Some companies may have received a notice from EIA that the company was selected for the survey. EIA conducts the survey among 1,500 propane and fuel oil retailers each week from October through March. The information from the survey is anonymously aggregated into publicly accessible data by PADD. Other federal agencies utilize the summary data to estimate the impact of regulatory actions that may affect the propane industry. For instance, when considering an efficiency standard for residential gas furnaces, the U.S. Department of Energy refers to EIA data to assess the consumption of propane for residential space heating.
EIA randomly selects companies to participate in the Winter Heat Fuels Telephone Survey and companies are required by law to complete the survey. The survey takes approximately six minutes to complete. More information about the survey is available here, and more information about EIA is available here.
