President Reagan may have said it best: The right to vote is the crown jewel of American liberties. Voting is among our most important rights and should be cherished. Yet it is but one cog in the creation of life as we seek to live it. Because after the election is over, while the names on television and those in Washington DC that NPGA works with on your behalf may or may not change, we need not let politicians define who we are.
Regardless of the results and even the potential business impact, the most important people in your life won’t change—the good men and women you live with, work with, call neighbors, eat and drink with, and worship with. We together, in each of our communities, are what makes America uniquely our own. Please exercise your considerable right to vote for whomever you choose, but remember that it is ultimately up to us—”We the People”—in our day-to-day lives to shape our families, our communities, and our own happiness.
