The Senate Appropriations Committee has approved funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) in Fiscal Year 2013 at the same level as in the current fiscal year. The appropriations bill for the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and related agencies would provide $3.472 billion for LIHEAP in FY 2013. While the LIHEAP funding level is higher than $3.2 billion recommended by President Obama's budget, it is still lower than the $5.1 billion that LIHEAP advocates have recommended. The House had not taken action yet on its version of the appropriations bill.
