Propane Prominent at 2017 Energy Independence Summit

(02-13-17) WASHINGTON, DC (February 13, 2017) -- Today, Phil Squair, NPGA’s Senior Vice President of Public and Governmental Affairs, addressed more than 100 attendees of the 2017 of the Energy Independence Summit.  The annual event brings together alternative fuel industry leaders from across the country to advocate for policies that will increase the use of propane, and other alternative fuels, across the United States. During a panel discussion highlighting the clean transportation policy accomplishments in 2016 and the Congressional outlook for 2017 Squair said, “There are great opportunities for propane and other alternative fuels in the new Administration.  Specifically, lessening the regulatory burden and decreasing corporate taxes will help us grow alternative fuel use during the next decade.”   Nationally, propane employs about 80,000 people in primarily locally owned and independent businesses.  Additionally, propane is a major contributor to the energy security of the United States.  Enough propane is now produced in North America to satisfy all United States propane demand.     READ MORE

Opportunity for States to Reduce Emissions (by Rick Roldan, published in The Hill)

(12-07-15) (December 4, 2015) Earlier this year, the federal government made history when it released a rule to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from existing power plants by 32 percent below 2005 levels by 2030. The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean Power Plan sets target emissions rates for each state and requires states to submit a compliance plan by September 2016. This has forced many states to investigate ways to meet these strict marks. If states look closely, they will find that propane can be a key element to their strategy.    READ MORE

President Signs Law to Reduce Propane Excise Tax

(08-04-15) On Friday, July 31, 2015, President Obama signed into law a bill making it easier for all Americans to use propane autogas. This piece of legislation modifies the functions of the Propane Education and Research Council and the data that the Department of Commerce is to use in developing its annual propane price analysis. Last winter, during the hardest winter our nation has faced in more than 25 years, the propane industry could not educate consumers on the steps necessary to prepare their propane-heated homes for the winter. New Law Helps Propane Consumers During Winter Emergencies; Mandates Early Warning System

(07-01-14) On June 30, 2014, President Obama signed into law S. 2086, the Reliable Home Heating Act. This bill clarifies that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) must accept hours-of-service (HOS) extensions during emergencies declared by a Governor for up to two additional 30-day periods (for a total of three). Current law allows additional HOS extensions to be granted by FMCSA or by a Presidential emergency declaration only.    READ MORE

More Than 500,000 Barrels of Propane En Route to the Midwest and Northeast

(02-12-14) More than half a million barrels of propane are now headed to the Midwest and Northeast as a result of an extended FERC order. These shipments will significantly assist NPGA members in meeting the essential needs of homes, businesses, and farms across the Midwest and the Northeast. This additional flow is a result of a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) order issued yesterday that extends the period during which Enterprise TE Products Pipeline Company LLC (Enterprise) must prioritize propane shipments from seven to 14 days, ending now on February 21, 2014.    READ MORE

Statement on Propane Supply, Demand, and Distribution

(01-22-14) To allow for expedited delivery of propane, NPGA is working with stakeholders throughout the industry to seek relief from the current situation. Presently, the U.S. Department of Transportation has issued a regional order for the Midwestern, Eastern, and Southern regions which will allow transporters to move propane more freely throughout the most affected regions. Fair and Reasonable Shipping Rates Established on Critical Energy Pipeline

(06-03-13) Washington, DC (June 3, 2013) – On Friday, May 31, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) established shipping rates on the Enterprise TE Products Pipeline (Enterprise) that are “fair, reasonable, and in the public interest.” The new rates end more than a year of legal proceedings between Enterprise and a propane industry coalition of more than 80 companies created and led by the National Propane Gas Association.
